On 14 May 2025, Giulia Magazzù led a six-hour session for trainee teachers at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, bringing recycling and climate change into the “English Language Teaching” module.
The session focused on preparing lesson plans for learners at B1 and B2 levels. British Council teaching materials on upcycling provided an introduction to the topic, offering a starting point for connecting environmental questions with English language learning.
Through this focus on lesson planning, future teachers considered how sustainability could become part of the content of an English lesson. Recycling and climate change provided meaningful themes around which to organise language work for intermediate and upper-intermediate learners.
Reported as part of the Italian partner’s EcoLingua activities, the session linked teacher education with the project’s work on integrating environmental issues into language teaching.
