EcoLingua Presented at International Higher Education Conference in India

On 5–6 March 2025, EcoLingua was showcased at an international conference in West Bengal, India, where Elisabetta Marino delivered a plenary talk on ecology, literature, and pedagogy to an audience of around 200 teachers and academics.

On 5–6 March 2025, the EcoLingua project was featured prominently at the international conference “Curriculum, Teaching and Research in Higher Education in the Light of NEP-2020”, organised by the Department of Education in collaboration with the IQAC of Saldiha College, Bankura, West Bengal, India.

Representing the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Elisabetta Marino was invited as a plenary speaker. In her talk, she explored the intersections between ecology, literature and pedagogy, using EcoLingua as a central example of how environmental issues can be integrated into language education in a systematic and meaningful way.

Focus of the Plenary

The presentation introduced EcoLingua’s main aims and intellectual outputs, highlighting how:

  • literary texts and cultural materials can be used to raise environmental awareness;
  • language classrooms can become spaces for reflection on climate change and sustainability;
  • digital and pedagogical innovation within EcoLingua supports teachers in rethinking curricula from an ecological perspective.

Special attention was given to the project’s interdisciplinary nature, showing how EcoLingua connects language teaching, environmental education and critical pedagogy.

The plenary drew an audience of around 200 participants, including teachers, researchers, and academic professionals from different institutions. The presentation of EcoLingua and its approach to integrating environmental topics into language teaching was received with great interest, and the project was warmly commended for its innovative and interdisciplinary character.

This event significantly contributed to raising the project’s profile beyond Europe, creating new opportunities for dialogue and collaboration with colleagues in India who are also working on curriculum renewal and sustainability in education.
