On 23 September 2026, the University of Burgos hosted the II International Workshop ECOLINGUA, “Empowering Teachers and Learners of English in Primary and Secondary Education”, at its Faculty of Education. The programme combined morning sessions on primary education with an afternoon programme devoted to secondary education.
The workshop addressed the use of artificial intelligence in sustainable education, environmental awareness and the design of learning situations from an ecosocial perspective. Beatriz Mediavilla Martínez contributed sessions on the use and abuse of AI, while Luis González Reyes from FUHEM addressed ecosocial approaches to learning design. The morning programme also included “Oceans in Action: Fostering Environmental Awareness”, with an introduction by Aránzazu Cosido and contributions from Ángela González and Eva Cárdenas.
Mehmet Saraç and Serhat Güzel from Balıkesir University joined online for “Integrating Environment into English Language Teaching: Theory and Practice for Teaching at Secondary Level”. Their contribution connected the workshop with the wider EcoLingua partnership.
María Amor Barros, Concetta Sigona and Lucía Muñoz contributed to the opening sessions. Through its focus on both primary and secondary education, the event shared EcoLingua’s approach with future teachers and linked environmental themes with practical decisions about language teaching.
